Job description

Job Title: General Production Worker
Job Description

The General Utility position is an entry-level production role that encompasses various duties within the production area. Employees are expected to contribute to production operations by adhering to policies and procedures for meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary conditions.
  • Communicate any issues that lead to unsanitary conditions promptly.
  • Remove product and packing materials from the floor and properly dispose of inedible products.
  • Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas.
  • Stage production area with empty containers for the following shift.
  • Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for meat-processing or sanitation.
  • Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework while ensuring proper identification of product and line to prevent cross-contamination and allergen concerns.
  • Relieve co-workers for breaks, which may involve assisting in another position.
  • Accurately complete any assigned paperwork.
  • Assist in training new employees accurately.
  • Check in with the area supervisor for additional pass down or shutdown activities at the end of the shift.
  • Conduct visual inspections of cases to ensure they are labeled and have a clear legible code date.
  • Make necessary adjustments to machinery for smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets.
  • Operate a manual hand jack as needed.
  • Communicate all equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare supplies and workstation for the next shift.
  • Stage ingredients in 50lb containers to maintain product flow.
  • Arrange meat as instructed and per specification.
  • Comb, hang, transport, and stack product continuously.
  • Inspect product quality specifications on a conveyor belt.
  • Perform job duties accurately and efficiently.

  • Ability to follow directions and work under minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment safely.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in general labor, production, packing, food manufacturing, or similar fields is advantageous.
  • Candidates with backgrounds in companies like Kraft, Tyson, or Hill & Valley would do well.

Work Environment

This role operates within a manufacturing environment characterized by exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and varying temperature areas ranging from colder (30 degrees) to warmer conditions. The noise level is typically high. The position requires standing and walking constantly throughout the shift, lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs, and using both hands as necessary. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
