The Materials Engineer role will include a variety of tasks and activities with a primary focus on materials and processes.
Responsibilities will include:
-Reviewing technical designs for compliance against military and industry requirements.
-Writing and implementing test plans for qualification of materials and processes.
-As Designed Parts List Review.
-Supporting coordination with supplier and subcontractors. -Coordinate with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement.
As a Materials Engineer - Early Career, you will spend much of your time working in a team environment, obtaining inputs from other engineers, performing analyses, and creating presentations/reports. There may be some travel. You will interact with engineers, suppliers, quality, production operations, program managers, laboratory operators, customers, and customer consultants. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, self-driven and can multitask as needed.
The information below reflects the standard job description for this position:
Evaluates technical and economic factors, recommending engineering and manufacturing actions for attainment of design objectives of process or product by applying knowledge of material science and related technologies. Reviews plans for new products and factors, such as strength, weight, and cost to submit material selection recommendations ensuring attainment of design objectives. Plans and implements laboratory operations to develop material and fabrication procedures for new materials to fulfill product cost and performance standards. Confers with producers of materials, such as metals, ceramics, and polymers, during investigation and evaluation of materials suitable for specific product applications.
Basic Qualifications
• Coursework/knowledge of non-metallic materials such as adhesives, composites, and coatings.
• Familiarity with ASTM, AMS, or MIL specifications related to materials procurement and/or testing
• Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to obtain/maintain Secret security clearance; US Citizenship Required
Desired Skills
• Bachelors Degree with industry experience in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related degree.
• Experience with providing guidance to design, stress, and manufacturing engineers.
• Familiarity with corrosion prevention, including coatings and dissimilar materials evaluations.
• Previous aerospace experience.
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
• Active or Current Secret clearance
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $88100.00 - $163700.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
