About the Role
The Ceramic Core Operator manufactures precision ceramic cores used in investment casting to produce complex internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace castings. This role performs ceramic core injection, inspection, and finishing operations to produce cores that meet stringent dimensional and quality requirements for turbine blade, vane, and other precision casting applications.

Perform ceramic core finishing operations including hand grinding, sanding, and coating to prepare cores for use.

Perform visual and dimensional inspection of ceramic cores using precision gauges, optical comparators, and vision systems to verify conformance to engineering requirements.

Prepare raw materials for blend and mix prior to injection. Operate ceramic core injection equipment to produce precision ceramic cores per approved process procedures, injection parameters, and dimensional specifications. Prepare ceramic cores for firing and recover cores post-fire to prepare for finishing operation.

Handle and package ceramic cores with care to prevent damage, maintain traceability documentation and organizing cores for shipment or use.

  • Exceptional manual dexterity required for handling, finishing, and inspecting fragile precision ceramic cores.
  • Ability to use precision measurement instruments including micrometers, gauges, and visual systems.
  • Visual acuity and attention to detail for ceramic core inspection and cosmetic defect identification.
  • Ability to follow precise injection and finishing procedures for high-value ceramic core programs.
  • Knowledge of ceramic material fragility and appropriate handling, packaging, and storage methods.
  • Ability to maintain accurate dimensional inspection records and core traceability documentation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Environment: Precision ceramics production area; ceramic dust present; controlled environment for dimensional stability.
  • Physical demands: Extended fine-motor work; sitting or standing at inspection stations; handling fragile ceramic parts with care.
  • PPE: Safety glasses, dust mask or respirator for ceramic dust areas, safety-toed boots required. (PPE ensemble will vary depending on task and as described in Job Safety Card.)
  • Respirator: Ability to achieve medical clearance, fit testing and training requirements.
