Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Lineman Apprentice. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced linemen while gaining hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead powerlines and associated equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to following safety protocols and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assistance with Line Construction: Assist journeyman linemen with the installation of new overhead powerlines, including setting poles, stringing wire, and installing hardware components. Learn how to safely and efficiently perform tasks such as pole climbing, conductor installation, and hardware assembly under the guidance of experienced mentors.
  • Maintenance and Repair Support: Support journeyman linemen in performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on existing powerlines and equipment. Learn how to identify and troubleshoot common issues, replace damaged components, and ensure that equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your coworkers. Follow the instructions of journeyman linemen and supervisors to ensure that work is performed safely and according to established standards.
  • Equipment Operation: Learn how to operate specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and tensioning machines under the supervision of experienced operators. Follow proper procedures for equipment setup, operation, and maintenance to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with journeyman linemen, supervisors, and other team members to receive instructions, provide updates on work progress, and ask questions as needed. Actively participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Documentation: Complete work logs, inspection reports, and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and equipment readings to track progress and compliance with project requirements.
  • Learning and Development: Take advantage of opportunities for on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and professional development to expand your knowledge and skills in the electrical utility industry. Seek feedback from mentors and supervisors to identify areas for improvement and growth.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with journeyman linemen, apprentices, and other team members to achieve project goals and objectives. Offer assistance and support to coworkers as needed to ensure that tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Good physical condition and ability to perform strenuous tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (preferred)

Work Environment:

  • This role is situated within an outdoor environment and regularly will be conducted in various weather conditions.
  • This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While executing job responsibilities, the employee will be required to engage in long periods of standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication. Additionally, the employee may occasionally need to lift or move office products and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • Travel within a limited area is expected for this position.
