Overhead Lineman Trainer
The Overhead Lineman Trainer is responsible for building, leading, and managing the company’s apprenticeship and intern training programs. This role requires hands-on lineman experience and the ability to turn real field knowledge into structured classroom, hands-on, and field-based training.
This position will oversee apprentice progression, intern development, onboarding, skills assessments, training materials, and program standards to help prepare employees for safe and successful overhead and underground electrical distribution work.
We are looking for someone who has actually worked in the field as a lineman and understands what apprentices need to learn, how they need to be trained, and how to build a program that prepares them for real jobsite conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and improve the company’s lineman apprenticeship program.
- Develop and oversee intern training programs for future field talent.
- Create training curriculum, learning paths, hands-on skills plans, and progression milestones.
- Lead classroom instruction, field demonstrations, and practical skills training.
- Track apprentice and intern progress, training completion, qualifications, and readiness.
- Standardize training expectations across crews, field leaders, and company locations.
- Coordinate new-hire onboarding, field readiness training, and skills assessments.
- Mentor apprentices, interns, newer employees, and developing field leaders.
- Create training materials, presentations, field guides, checklists, and reference documents.
- Partner with Operations and Safety to make sure training reflects real field needs.
- Support safety training, corrective coaching, and additional training after incidents or field observations.
- Maintain apprenticeship and intern program documentation, records, and reports.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on lineman experience in utility, energy, or overhead electrical construction.
- Strong knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution work.
- Experience training, mentoring, coaching, or leading apprentices, interns, or field employees.
- Ability to build structured training programs from field knowledge and company standards.
- Ability to teach in classroom, field, and hands-on training environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, PPE, grounding, fall protection, tools, equipment, and safe work practices.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to travel to company locations, training sites, and project sites as needed.
- I would also make the opening line on the posting something like:
Are you an experienced lineman who wants to help build the next generation of lineworkers?
