What is an entry level labor job?

Entry Level Labor jobs are positions that require little to no prior work experience and typically involve manual or physical work. These roles can include tasks such as loading and unloading materials, cleaning job sites, assisting skilled workers, or operating basic machinery. Entry level laborers often work in industries like construction, manufacturing, or warehousing and receive on-the-job training to develop their skills. These jobs are a good way to gain work experience, learn new skills, and advance to more specialized positions over time.

What are some common challenges faced in an entry level labor position, and how can they be managed?

Entry level labor roles often involve physically demanding tasks such as lifting, standing for long periods, and repetitive motions, which can be challenging for those new to the field. Adapting to early morning or variable shifts and following strict safety protocols are also common hurdles. To manage these challenges, it's important to maintain good physical conditioning, ask for guidance from experienced coworkers, and consistently use proper protective equipment. Open communication with supervisors about workload and safety concerns can help ensure a supportive and productive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level laborer, and why are they important?

Schedule: Full-time

Travel: Local jobsite travel

Employment classification: 1099 or W2 options

Bonus opportunity: Performance or project-completion incentives may be available

About the Role

E.N.A. Contracting is hiring an experienced Remodeling Carpenter to work on residential remodeling, additions, decks, property-maintenance projects and selected commercial work.

This is not an entry-level labor position. The right candidate will have broad hands-on construction experience, understand the normal sequence of a remodeling project and be able to complete assigned work without constant supervision.

Projects vary in size and scope. One week may involve a deck or room addition, while another may include a bathroom remodel, drywall repair, trim installation or property-maintenance work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform residential remodeling and general carpentry work.
  • Complete framing, drywall, trim, flooring, tile, cabinet, window, door and deck-related tasks.
  • Read measurements, layouts, scopes of work and basic plans.
  • Identify jobsite issues and communicate them before they create delays or rework.
  • Maintain quality standards throughout each phase of construction.
  • Work safely and keep jobsites organized.
  • Coordinate effectively with crew members, subcontractors and supervisors.
  • Communicate professionally when working in occupied homes and customer-facing environments.
  • Take progress photos and provide basic job updates through company systems.
  • Support less-experienced crew members when appropriate.
  • Move between remodeling, construction and property-maintenance assignments as business needs change.

Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of residential remodeling, carpentry or closely related construction experience.
  • Experience with several of the following:
  • Framing, drywall, kitchens, baths, finish carpentry, flooring, tile, deck construction, cabinets, windows and doors, and Siding or exterior repairs.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic construction math.
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to work safely at heights, on ladders and lifts, while climbing, bending, working in tight spaces, and carrying heavy construction materials.
  • Reliable transportation to local jobsites.
  • Smartphone proficiency for communication, photos and project updates.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
  • Professional communication and dependable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of remodeling or general carpentry experience.
  • Experience working professionally in occupied residential properties.
  • Experience training helpers or junior carpenters.
  • Basic familiarity with plumbing, electrical or HVAC-related repair work within an appropriate construction scope.
  • Experience using Houzz, Buildertrend or similar project software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle, if assigned.

Tools and Equipment

  • Employees should have basic personal hand tools and commonly used cordless tools.
  • E.N.A. Contracting provides larger jobsite equipment and specialty tools.
  • Final tool expectations should be reviewed during the interview.

What E.N.A. Contracting Offers

  • $25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skill level
  • Weekly pay
  • Performance-based and project-completion bonus opportunities
  • Year-round work to keep the team busy
  • Local work throughout Fort Wayne and surrounding communities
  • Most weekend work is optional
  • Flexible time-off scheduling, coordinated in advance around active projects
  • Free or deeply discounted vacation lodging opportunities may be available through company travel packages and points
  • Safety equipment provided
  • Training and development opportunities, including jobsite safety, manufacturer training, fall protection, lift training and other certifications as applicable
  • Opportunity to advance into a lead carpenter, foreman or project-lead role
  • Varied project experience across remodeling, decks, additions, property maintenance and selected commercial work
  • Supportive team environment focused on direct communication, skill development and work-life balance
  • Flexible employment options: W-2 employment or a qualifying 1099 independent contractor arrangement may be available.
