Summer Temporary Laboratory Technician (Entry-Level)

Temporary |Full-Time Summer Role | Hands-On Work | No Experience Required


Looking for a summer job where you can stay active, learn practical skills, and be part of a supportive team? APA - The Engineered Wood Association is hiring two Temporary Associate Laboratory Technicians for the summer months in Tacoma.


This is a short-term, entry-level position ideal for individuals 18 or older who are dependable, enjoy working with their hands, and want to gain real-world experience in a lab and shop environment.

What You Will Do

As a summer lab technician, you will assist with daily lab operations and support testing work. Tasks include:

  • Prepare wood test samples using saws and basic shop tools
  • Assist with running standard lab tests
  • Record results and entering data into a computer database
  • Clean and maintain work areas and equipment
  • Support the team with general lab tasks and projects
  • Work with scientists and engineers to establish testing procedures and project needs
  • Follow all safety procedures and keep your work area organized

This is an active role that involves standing, lifting, and working with tools throughout the day.

Requirements

 What We Are Looking For

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma
  • Reliable and able to show up consistently for scheduled shifts
  • Comfortable using or learning to use basic tools and equipment
  • Comfortable and able to operate heavy equipment
  • Able to life 50 to 75 pounds with team assistance
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

Helpful but Not Required

  • Previous summer, warehouse, construction, or shop experience
  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, or mechanical tasks

We will provide on-the-job training for the right candidates.

Schedule and Pay

  • Temporary full-time summer position
  • $19.62 per hour (in alignment with Washington State pay requirements)

Benefits for Temporary Employees

  • Paid sick leave accrued in accordance with Washington State law
  • This role is not benefit eligible beyond sick leave due to its temporary nature.
