The Accessioning Processor is responsible for the accession and processing of incoming specimens to prepare them for in-house and outsource testing.


wEssential Functionsw

  • Receives specimens and completes an electronic requisition
  • Prints barcodes for the requisition
  • Data entry of requisitions in computer database systems including Quest, LabDaq, and Care360
  • Validates all information for specimens, patient demographics, and billing information
  • Reports inconsistencies in accessioning, date entry, specimen identification, and sample type to supervisor
  • Demonstrates a courteous and professional interaction with the laboratories, coordinating offices, and staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen testing requirements and ability to accurately communicate all pertinent information between parties
  • Reviews requisitions and scans them into an electronic filing system
  • Works alongside Send-Out Testing
  • Follows all policies in place regarding confidentiality and safety and wearing the appropriate PPE in designated areas
  • Maintains training as assigned including Laboratory Practices, HIPAA, and OSHA policies
  • Performs additional tasks as instructed by supervisor

wRequirementsw

  • OSHA Category 1 tasks involving exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Daily tasks involving walking, standing, reaching, lifting, and bending
  • Acuity working with multiple laboratory machines and equipment
  • Finger dexterity with ability to type at least 60 wpm
