Job description

Your First Seat on a Working Drill Crew

GCS Group is looking for a Junior Telecom HDD Driller to join our growing operations in Red Deer, Alberta. We run active underground telecom installation projects and our drill crews are busy year-round. This is an entry-level operator position - not a labour role. We want someone who is certified, physically ready for field work, and serious about building a career behind the controls.

You'll be working under the guidance of experienced operators on Ditch Witch equipment, learning how a professional drill crew runs a bore from setup to pullback. The hours are real, the work is demanding, and the opportunity to advance is genuine.

Duties & Expectations

  • Operate Ditch Witch HDD drill equipment under direct supervision of a senior driller
  • Assist with rig setup, rod handling, tooling changes, and equipment breakdown
  • Monitor drill console readings and report any irregularities to the lead operator
  • Work in sync with the locating crew during all bore operations
  • Perform basic daily maintenance and pre-shift equipment inspections
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and hazard-free throughout the shift

What You Need

  • All required certifications must be completed and valid before your first shift - this is a firm condition of hire
  • Basic knowledge of Ditch Witch HDD equipment is an asset
  • Mechanically inclined with a willingness to learn from experienced operators
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
  • Valid driver's licence
