What does Entry Level JD Preferred mean in a job posting?

'Entry Level JD Preferred' refers to positions that are open to candidates who have recently graduated from law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, but do not necessarily require bar admission or extensive legal practice experience. Employers use this term to indicate that having a JD is advantageous but not strictly mandatory. It's a common entry point for law graduates seeking legal or quasi-legal roles outside of traditional attorney positions.

As an Entry Level JD Preferred candidate, you can expect a variety of responsibilities that support legal teams and attorneys. Typical tasks might include conducting legal research, drafting memos or basic legal documents, organizing case files, assisting with due diligence, and reviewing contracts for accuracy. You'll often collaborate with paralegals, associates, and partners, gaining exposure to real-world legal processes. This hands-on experience helps build foundational skills and can serve as a springboard for future roles within the legal field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level JD Preferred professional?

To thrive as an Entry Level JD Preferred professional, you typically need a Juris Doctor degree with strong analytical, research, and writing abilities. Familiarity with legal research platforms like Westlaw or LexisNexis and proficiency in Microsoft Office are often required.
