Job description

Overview
Do you want to directly impact hundreds of millions of devices every month and enjoy the gratification that comes from keeping millions of customers protected from the ever-growing threats of cyberattacks? Do you have the engineering skills, attention to details and quality, passion for building systems and services that delights our customers and allows them to be productive? Do you want to be part of a diverse, fast paced and highly technical team that takes pride in regularly delivering value to our business customers on time with quality in an agile cadence? You will want to talk to us!
We are part of Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) team that delivers high quality servicing releases to keep Microsoft customers protected and productive by continuously building and delivering Windows Operating System updates to consumers, enterprises and Microsoft Cloud customers.
Our team is trying to solve the problem of not only keeping the Windows powered enterprises, data centers, and cloud services safe and secure through software updates but also to consume these Windows updates with zero to minimal downtime such that businesses and consumers continue to remain available and productive deploying these updates. We are building a system that will help in engineering, building, delivery and deployment of software updates for a code base as big and wide as Windows in a re-bootless way. We are building a modern AI powered engineering system that is intelligent, efficient and can operate on a scale to produce re-bootless updates. We will also enhance Windows with new innovations and capabilities to deploy, monitor and manage these updates. You will work across OS components, compiler-linker-loader tool chain, installers and management to build the stack and overall solution. If you are a deep thinker and passionate about problem solving. If scalability, performance, downtime, high availability problems get you thrilled. If you are excited about leveraging AI to solve engineering and scale problems, then this is a great opportunity to build your career and create business impact.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
  • We are looking for a strong developer to help realize the above story. Ideal candidate will thrive amid ambiguity and enjoy building lasting systems in collaboration with others where success not only includes business value but having a cost-effective, reliable, state and scalable solution.
  • Candidate must possess strong analytical, design and coding skills. In this role you will have the opportunity to design and develop software and services at scale, innovating on the latest technologies and following modern engineering practices.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Helps to identify other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others. Contributes to determining back-end dependencies associated with product, application, service, or platform functionality for product features.
  • Identifies areas to efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms. Contributes to sustaining feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Helps to create outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.
  • Creates a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests (e.g., unit tests). Adds new tests, removes antiquated tests, and aggregates tests to improve tests in the feature area. Helps to drive efforts for augmenting test cases and ensures that the solution area has good test coverage. Helps to integrate automation features when planning for testing.
  • Maintain close technical relationship with partner teams, provide technical leadership and drive for engineering excellence and results.
