Our Engineering Boot Camp is a full-time Engineer I role paired with a structured training and development program built to accelerate your growth in the power industry. As a Boot Camp Engineer, you'll dive into focused classroom instruction led by seasoned Qualus engineers and industry experts, participate in immersive site visits, and gain hands-on substation safety and equipment training. You'll also receive guided preparation for the FE exam to help you build a strong technical foundation from day one.

As a Power Systems Engineer, you will work with several departments in different geographies to perform power system studies including short circuit and equipment evaluation, overcurrent coordination and protection, arc flash, load flow, motor starting, power quality, and harmonic analysis.
The 2026 Engineering Boot Camp, powered by Qualus University, will be starting June 2026. As a program participant, you will receive an offer to be a full-time employee with Qualus.
Responsibilities
  • Perform Short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies for commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and generation facilities using SKM, ETAP, and/or Easypower software.
  • Applies knowledge of low and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to determine cost-effective mitigation solutions from the results and recommendations of power system studies.
  • Develop study reports and communicate results and recommendations to customers.
  • Perform data collection activities.
  • Develop and/or implement arc flash mitigation designs.
  • Interpret new construction drawing packages.
  • Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files.
  • Develop and/or update equipment control schematics, one-lines, three-lines, and wiring diagrams.
  • Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.
  • Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
  • Successfully execute small to medium-sized projects with limited oversight.
  • Self-manage assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
  • Effectively communicate with other departments and customers to ensure activities are properly coordinated.

Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school (Mechanical Engineering degrees accepted for some roles) with a focus on power systems.
  • Ability to travel 50-60% of the time.
  • Microsoft Office product application.
  • Educational experience directly related to working with [medium to high voltage] electricity (preferred).
  • Knowledge of test equipment and tool/wiring usage.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, and accurately, and have high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
  • Strong computer skills.
