The Position

The City of Cortez is hiring a Seasonal Parks Irrigation Assistant to help keep public parks and golf irrigation systems running reliably throughout the season. This entry-level, onsite role supports daily irrigation upkeep so turf areas stay healthy and safe for community use.
Key responsibilities include assisting with irrigation troubleshooting, swapping or repairing heads, valves, and solenoids, helping relocate irrigation lines, and updating irrigation clock programming as directed.
Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One season of experience with irrigation systems and parks maintenance
- Working knowledge of irrigation operation and repair, plus turf-area planting/maintenance
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certification is highly desired

A Typical Day

Much of the day is spent outdoors moving between irrigation zones, coordinating with your supervisor, and keeping notes on what you find so adjustments can be made quickly. Expect a steady pace, hands-on work with tools and controls, and a Mondayโ€“Friday schedule with occasional weekend needs during peak season.

Leave & Time Off

Sick leave is provided for this seasonal position, giving you paid time away from work when youโ€™re ill.
