Job description


The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per diem Physical Therapist 3. The successful candidate will:
  • Evaluate and treat patients referred for skilled physical therapy in acute care and acute rehabilitation setting, according to department's standard of care.
  • Establish treatment goals and create plan of care to attain established goals.
  • Provide appropriate prn education to patient and family alike.
  • Provide instruction to the patient, family members and other health care professionals involved in the care of the patient.
  • Participate prn in interdisciplinary rounds & huddles.
  • Evaluate and submit requests for durable medical equipment and adaptive assistive devices, orthotics, and prosthetic needs.
  • Complete and submit all required patient documentation in electronic medical record; and related work paperwork.
  • Schedule patients, keep attendance, billing, and treatment records.
  • Bill for all services rendered & maintain dept. productivity standards & procedures.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for Junior/ Level I students.
  • Provide supervision to Physical Therapist Assistants, aides and volunteers.
  • Consult with physician regarding patient care.
  • Participate in departmental in-services and other departmental and interdepartmental activities.
  • Adhere to all compliance regulations, licensure requirements, and federal and state regulations.
  • Model the WE CARE values of the institution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
  • New York State Physical Therapist Licensure (or eligible with permit, but must pass within 1-year of hire).
  • Entry level 0+ years of experience (new graduates are welcome to apply).
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BLS/CPR Certification.
