Associated Engineering, a proudly Canadian, Employee-owned Company is seeking an experienced and dedicated Water Treatment Operations Technician to join our team in our Calgary office. This is an exciting opportunity for an operator who enjoys applying their operational expertise beyond day-to-day plant operations by supporting the startup, commissioning, optimization, and long-term operation of municipal water treatment facilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring new and upgraded water treatment systems transition safely and effectively from construction to full operation while also providing ongoing operational support to existing facilities.

What you’ll be doing:
- Support the startup and commissioning of new and upgraded water treatment plants and processes.
- Collaborate with engineers, technologists, contractors, and utility staff during construction, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
- Participate in functional testing, performance testing, and process optimization of treatment systems.
- Assist with development and review of commissioning plans, operating procedures, and startup documentation.
- Provide operational expertise during design reviews and construction to improve maintainability and operability.
- Perform operational troubleshooting of treatment processes and mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Conduct routine operational assessments and recommend process improvements.
- Assist with operator training and knowledge transfer to plant staff.
- Support water quality monitoring, regulatory compliance, and process performance evaluations.
- Participate in field investigations and condition assessments of existing water treatment facilities.
- Maintain accurate commissioning, operational, and regulatory records.
- Travel to project sites as required.
Does this sound like you?
Required
- Minimum Level II Water Treatment Operator Certification (or equivalent recognized certification).
- Experience operating municipal water treatment facilities.
- Working knowledge of conventional and advanced drinking water treatment processes.
- Strong understanding of water treatment regulations and operational best practices.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment manuals, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites.
Preferred
- Level II or Level III Water Treatment Operator Certification.
- Experience with startup and commissioning of treatment facilities.
- Experience with SCADA systems and process control in operations.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls.
- Experience working on construction projects or capital upgrades.
- Familiarity with commissioning documentation, performance testing, and operator training.
- Experience with process optimization and operational assessments.
