Job description

Lead Toolroom Technician - Day Shifts

Shift: Days 6:00am - 2:30pm M-F

Position Summary

Maintains and troubleshoots injection molds, operates Toolroom machinery, revises and manufactures mold components and has responsibility for product quality and safety. Support the preparation of preventative mold maintenance schedules, making necessary mold changes and improvements. Responsible for monitoring the mold spare inventory under supervision of the Toolroom Supervisor.

Job Elements & Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the training and development of Apprentices and Toolroom Techs
  • Keep Supervisor informed of performance and quality issues in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with mold engineers to determine root causes of issues and implement continuous improvement solutions.
  • Assists with working with outside machine shops as required to ensure parts are delivered on time and within budget
  • Support the monitoring of spare mold inventory and make corrections where necessary
  • Coordinates assignment of work within the department and facilitate overtime scheduling with support from the Toolroom Supervisor
  • Develop schedules to meet production needs
  • Disassembles and reassembles injection molds, hot runner systems in order to troubleshoot Hot Runner issues, basic tear down, cleaning and replacing Hot Runner components as required to meet production schedules
  • Provide written reports on findings, corrective actions and PM results
  • Operates basic Toolroom machinery safely (vertical mill, lathe, surface grinders, overhead crane, Dedtru etc.)
  • Troubleshoots and solves mold problems
  • Reads blueprints to manufacture or modify mold components. Help identify mold components, ability to markup mold prints that need to be to be modified and reference original mold dimensions per the drawing to document steel sizes and mold stacks
  • Assists with working with outside machine shops as required to ensure parts are delivered on time and within budget
  • Cleans molds and components
  • Performs and maintains housekeeping for work area and machinery
Required Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • State certified Journeyman Mold maker or equivalent preferred

Experience

  • Ten years of experience in tool making or mold repair required
  • CAD experience required
  • CNC experience preferred
  • SAP, or similar ERP, preferred

Skills

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English in order to communicate and understand relevant information
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must demonstrate (as determined by testing) mechanical aptitude and be proficient in math
  • Must be able to use precision measuring equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry mold components up to 50 lbs. - from floor level to above waist one to two times per work shift
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for the full shift, as required by the position
  • Must be able to work well under pressure
  • Must be able to hear warning signals and verbal alerts to avoid injury during manufacturing process
  • Must have good vision in order to perform visual inspection duties
  • Must be able to work effectively, communicate with others and be willing to work as a member of a team
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work independently
  • Must be willing and able to obtain a forklift license
  • Must possess basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and email programs such as Microsoft Outlook;
  • Must be willing to assume additional responsibilities as delegated

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this position is: starting at $30.00/hr - 45.00/hr plus any applicable shift differential.
