Job description

The Legal Assistant is responsible for working with paralegals, attorneys and other team members in the preparation, filing, and monitoring of high-volume employment-based immigration law matters. Legal assistants are relied upon to provide administrative support to attorneys and paralegals who are working both on-site and working remotely. Under the direct supervision of attorneys and paralegals, the legal assistant initiates cases, coordinates meetings with clients and staff, responds to client inquiries, as appropriate, coordinates billing, scans, prints and organizes legal documents and complies and mails petitions.


This position requires 100% in-office work.


The legal assistant is expected to apply problem solving, organization and judgement skills as they perform assigned tasks, learn new skills and progress in their career with the firm.

  • Answer client and staff questions with a firm understanding of the ethical rules for communications from a non-attorney to clients/prospective clients.
  • Be proficient, or possess the ability to easily become proficient, in various technology utilized by the firm from our case management system, to productivity applications such Microsoft Office and ClickUp, demonstrating enthusiasm and initiative to acquire new technological skills quickly.
  • Produce high-quality work product while meeting deadlines.
  • Be a supportive member of our team who contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively information people need to know to do their jobs so they can produce accurate work and make decisions based on all available facts.
  • Assist with the development of training for staff and clients.

Minimum Education Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • This is an entry -level position with our firm, however previous law firm experience a plus


Physical Requirements:

  • Physical and mental ability to meet performance expectations within a fast-paced and dynamic environment that requires the ability to work under pressure, while meeting deadlines, producing complete and correct work and maintaining calm and professional communication.
  • Ability to perform tasks that includes include use of close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to perform data entry tasks using standard computer equipment.
  • Hearing must be sufficient to communicate with others.
  • Ability to listen and retain pertinent information to relay and follow instructions from MK team members and clients.
  • Ability to hear and respond to requests for information from MK team members and clients

  • Ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be understood.
  • Fine hand and finger movement agility necessary for use on standard computer equipment.
