What are entry level illustration internships?

Entry level illustration internships are short-term, practical work experiences designed for students or recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in illustration. These internships typically provide opportunities to work alongside professional illustrators, assist with projects, and learn industry-standard tools and techniques. Interns may contribute to creating illustrations for books, advertising, digital media, or other visual projects, while also gaining valuable portfolio pieces and networking connections. The goal is to help interns develop their artistic skills, build a professional portfolio, and gain real-world experience in the art and design industry.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an entry level illustration internship?

As an entry-level illustration intern, you'll typically assist with a variety of creative projects such as creating digital assets, supporting senior illustrators with concept sketches, and contributing to storyboards or marketing materials. You may also be involved in revising existing artwork based on feedback, preparing files for production, and collaborating with designers or writers on team projects. This hands-on experience allows you to build your portfolio, gain familiarity with industry-standard tools, and understand the workflow of professional illustration teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level illustration intern?

To thrive as an Entry Level Illustration Intern, you need a solid foundation in drawing, visual storytelling, and a portfolio demonstrating your creative abilities, often supported by coursework in illustration or related arts. Familiarity with industry-standard digital illustration tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and drawing tablets is typically required. Strong communication, openness to feedback, and the ability to collaborate effectively help interns stand out. These skills and qualities are essential for producing high-quality artwork, meeting project requirements, and growing within a professional creative environment.

If you're ready to grow, create, and make an impact, we'd love to have you on our team.

This is a year-long internship with an anticipated start date ASAP. This position will be approximately 15-20 hours per week during the school semester for one year. 40 hours per week during the summer.

  • Help manage and organize our digital image library so everyone can find what they need when they need it.
Qualifications
