The Humanitarian Action Initiative (HAI) was founded in 2020 as part of an Elliott School initiative to support scholarship and policy engagement on humanitarian assistance. Humanitarian assistance is a broad field of activity that includes responses to earthquakes, floods, droughts and famines, involves assistance to refugees and migrants, and addresses basic human needs to permit individuals affected by conflict, climate change, or health emergencies to live life with dignity. Through our events, research activities, and policy engagement, we introduce the many dimensions of humanitarian assistance to the GW community, engage in critical inquiry, and produce scholarship to inform humanitarian policy and practice.
Position Specific Summary
Administrative Assistants should be comfortable performing the following job duties:
  • Correspond via email with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Input data for scheduling, hiring, enrollment management, curriculum management, and related administrative processes.
  • Assist in event coordination and event delivery.
  • Update course and curriculum information on the ESIA website.
  • Assistance with course marketing and flyer materials.
Standard Position Description
The student will serve as an administrative assistant and perform tasks to support the operations of the the office or department. Tasks may include: assembling materials, filing, photocopying, giving directions or information, responding to phone or email inquiries, scanning and/indexing documents, light data entry, and other general office tasks. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
