Job description

Position Title: HP-UX/UNIX/Linux Administrator

Title/Name this Position Reports to: Manager of Operations (HP-UX/NOC)

Schedule: Hybrid (2 days onsite per week)

Location: 7070 American Veterans Parkway, Middleburg Heights, OH

Salary Range: $60k-$75k

Job Summary:

The HP-UX / UNIX / Linux Administrator supports enterprise infrastructure operations, with a primary focus on HP-UX systems and broader UNIX/Linux environments. This role is responsible for system administration, performance optimization, security, patching, and troubleshooting across mission-critical platforms.

The position also contributes to Linux modernization efforts and helps with system monitoring, deployments, and troubleshooting. The administrator plays a key role in maintaining system stability, security, and operational efficiency across the environment.

Administration Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain HP-UX and Linux systems (RHEL preferred)
  • Build and configure servers, including hardware, services, directories, and system settings
  • Apply OS patches, firmware updates, and security fixes
  • Optimize resources and perform kernel tuning based on utilization
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize stability
  • Perform routine maintenance during defined maintenance windows
  • Analyze logs and resolve system issues to minimize downtime
  • Manage users, groups, and system access controls
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts, cron jobs, and automation tasks
  • Produce performance and capacity planning reports
  • Maintain and improve system security posture
  • Support and maintain file systems, storage connectivity, and networking (NFS, SMB)
  • Contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives; HP-UX to RHEL modernization

Monitoring, Documentation & Operations:

  • Monitor system health and proactively address issues, escalate to management when needed
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and runbooks
  • Support incident response and root cause analysis
  • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in technical projects from planning through execution
  • Test and implement new technologies and operational processes
  • Occasional travel to data centers for onsite support; Cleveland & Akron
  • Support virtualization and storage platforms (VMware, Pure Storage); RHEL VMs
  • Windows Server 2025 knowledge a plus
  • Assists with system upgrades, patching, etc. during monthly maintenance windows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or CompTIA Linux+ preferred
  • Experience with HP-UX and enterprise UNIX environments
  • Knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in NOC/SOC environments a plus.
  • Continuous learning via self-help methods

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Linux certification(s) preferred; Windows certification(s) a plus
