Job description

EIS Holding, LLC, is one of the largest providers of turnkey environmental services in the country, providing soil and groundwater remediation, asbestos and lead abatement, demolition, mold remediation, and air duct cleaning.
Position Description - Staff Environmental Scientist
Business Group/Dept: Operations
FLSA: Exempt
Reports To: Branch Manager
Date: July 21, 2026
Purpose of the Position
Staff Environmental Scientist will conduct asbestos, lead-based paint, and hazardous building material surveys for commercial, industrial, institutional, government, healthcare, educational, and residential facilities. The position combines field inspections, environmental sampling, technical report preparation, and project support. The successful candidate will manage multiple concurrent assignments, communicate professionally with clients and site personnel, and produce accurate survey documentation in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Essential Position Responsibilities
  • Conduct asbestos inspections and surveys in accordance with AHERA, NESHAP, OSHA, EPA, and applicable South Carolina and North Carolina requirements, including pre-renovation and pre-demolition surveys.
  • Conduct lead-based paint inspections using XRF analyzers, paint chip sampling, dust wipe sampling, and soil sampling in accordance with EPA, HUD, and state requirements.
  • Collect bulk asbestos samples and other environmental samples while maintaining complete chain-of-custody records and coordinating analysis with accredited laboratories.
  • Document suspect materials, sample locations, material conditions, quantities, floor plans, sketches, photographs, and field observations accurately.
  • Prepare clear and complete survey reports, sampling summaries, laboratory data tables, recommendations, and regulatory documentation.
  • Support project managers and estimators by providing survey findings, material quantities, pre-bid site information, and technical input.
  • Participate in client meetings, pre-bid site walks, and coordination with general contractors, building owners, architects, engineers, and facility personnel.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate field equipment, including XRF instruments and environmental sampling tools.
  • Follow company safety policies, site-specific health and safety plans, and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Manage assigned work efficiently and meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.

Physical activities: Ability to wear respiratory protection following medical clearance and fit testing, and to use required personal protective equipment. Ability to work in occupied buildings, vacant structures, industrial facilities, and active construction environments, including crawl spaces, attics, rooftops, ladders, and elevated work areas. Ability to walk, stand, climb, kneel, bend, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods, and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment and supplies. Occasional nights, weekends, and extended shifts based on project and client schedules.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Respiratory protection (following medical clearance and fit testing), and other personal protective equipment as required for field and site work.

Travel: 15% to 25%
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, along with one to three years of experience in environmental consulting, hazardous building material surveying, industrial hygiene, or a related field (qualified entry-level candidates will be considered). Requires current AHERA Building Inspector accreditation, South Carolina asbestos inspector accreditation and applicable North Carolina asbestos inspector accreditation or licensure, and EPA or applicable state Lead Inspector certification for South Carolina and North Carolina, or the ability to obtain these within 90 days. Requires a valid driver license and acceptable driving record, ability to travel to project sites throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and surrounding areas including occasional overnight travel, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat, and strong attention to detail with the ability to prepare clear, accurate technical reports.
Preferred Skill Set: EPA Lead Risk Assessor certification, experience operating XRF lead paint analyzers, and AHERA Management Planner accreditation. OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and/or OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification is a plus, as is experience with Bluebeam Revu, CAD, GIS, or environmental data management software. Familiarity with South Carolina and North Carolina asbestos and lead regulations and notification requirements is also preferred.
