Position Overview: The Human Factors Engineer applies human-centered design principles to improve workforce readiness, user adoption, and workflow optimization across enterprise healthcare information systems and digital health technologies. Working with clinical, technical, training, and operational stakeholders, the Human Factors Engineer evaluates how users interact with technology, identifies workflow and usability challenges, and recommends solutions that improve user enablement, training and onboarding, peer support, and overall system performance. The role supports the adoption and optimization of healthcare technologies by identifying opportunities to improve usability, strengthen workforce readiness, and enhance day-to-day clinical operations.

Please note this position is contingent upon award (Aug/Sept 2026)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support centralized training & onboarding initiatives by evaluating user learning needs, developing user-centered enablement resources, and contributing to workforce readiness activities that promote successful adoption.
  • Collaborate with super users & peer support networks to gather end-user feedback, promote knowledge sharing, identify adoption challenges, and support continuous improvement of user strategies.
  • Conduct workflow observations, usability assessments, and user feedback sessions to support user experience & insight integration, identifying opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, system usability, and overall end-user experience.
  • Assist with long-term staffing analysis by evaluating user roles, workflow demands, and workforce trends to help identify opportunities for improved staffing models, role optimization, and sustainable operational support.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative user feedback, document findings, and recommend human-centered solutions that improve workforce readiness, user adoption, workflow optimization, and overall system performance.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience supporting human-centered design, usability, workflow analysis, user adoption, training, or healthcare technology implementation initiatives.
  • Experience observing end users, gathering feedback, and identifying opportunities to improve system usability, workflow efficiency, or workforce readiness.
  • Experience supporting software implementations, digital transformation initiatives, or healthcare information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, interviews, focus groups, or user feedback sessions with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document findings and present recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience developing user guidance, job aids, training materials, or knowledge resources that support technology adoption.
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify user challenges and recommend process improvements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting Oracle Health (Cerner), Epic, or other enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms.
  • Experience supporting Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), or other federal healthcare organizations.
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows across inpatient, outpatient, or ancillary healthcare settings.
  • Experience supporting organizational change management, user adoption, or workforce enablement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of human-centered design principles, usability evaluation methods, and workflow optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements and inclusive design principles.
  • Experience supporting Super User, Peer Support, or End User Optimization programs.
