Job Summary
Trapani + Associates' Radiation Shielding Engineering Designer I will primarily be responsible for the drafting of shielding projects for healthcare, research, and industrial applications under the supervision of senior staff members.
This entry-level position offers comprehensive training in radiation shielding design from one of the world's leading design groups. While no prior radiation shielding experience is necessary, candidates must exhibit a strong desire to learn, acute attention to detail, and solid critical thinking skills.
The standard training period is 1 to 2 years, during which candidates will be introduced to shielding design concepts, implement their training, and progress to managing more challenging project types. Prior experience with building construction is preferred.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with senior team members to produce construction documents for a variety of shielding projects.
• Develop and implement design and construction packages, sketches, and fabrication drawings using standard shielding design procedures, methods, and redlines, based on sketches or concepts provided by others.
• Demonstrate the ability to resolve design challenges and display a high degree of drafting proficiency with strong project organization skills.
• Frequently coordinate, communicate, and problem-solve within the project team to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, either working independently or in collaboration with senior team members.
• Proactively anticipate construction challenges and promptly alert senior staff to any issues.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Building Technology, Civil Engineering (with structural concentration) or similar coursework in drafting/design is required.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in Architecture, Structural or a related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of building construction techniques and materials, as well as design principles.
• Skilled knowledge of Autodesk REVIT and 2D AutoCAD software for architectural or structural design, rendering, and detailing, emphasizing steel and concrete construction.
• Strong ability to design within projected schedule timelines.
• Proven ability to visualize things three-dimensionally from 2D documents.
• Keen eye for detail in graphics, such as line weights, detail layouts, and grammar.
• Ability to identify and make suggestions for design improvements.
• Working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in construction.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly convey design intent graphically and verbally.
• Strong team player with effective interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other standard office equipment such as copy machines, computer printers, and plotters.
