Job description

Summary:
Leads test laboratory technician efforts on laboratory or field projects under the direction of Engineering staff. Oversees and/or conducts a variety of structural tests (this may include preparing test specimens, setting up and operating standard test equipment, and recording test data). Trains and instructs junior test laboratory technicians on operation of laboratory equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Fabricates and/or prepares test specimens in the laboratory or on project job site.
• Constructs specimens or equipment using prepared plans or specifications.
• Oversees the conduct of complex tests or perform standardized tests.
• Assists in the preparation of reports.
• Tabulates data and makes simple calculations, using the computer.
• Operates, calibrates, and maintains specialized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ensures the quality of test laboratory work.
• Maintains the test laboratory facility to provide a clean, organized, and safe working
environment.
• Inspects equipment and ensures that safety/maintenance concerns are reported to the
Manager.
• Follows Company safety rules and regulations.
• Adheres to stated Company policies and procedures, including the Equal Employment
Opportunity policy.
Work Environment:
  • Test facility may be subject to hot and cold temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals or heights. May require prolonged sitting, standing, and computer work; heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, physical exertion, and working overtime evenings and weekends.

Education and/or Experience:
• High School graduate with applicable course work and/or appropriate experience
• 10 years of experience in test/laboratory environment, cold-formed steel technology,
instrumentation, the construction industry, and/or with computers.
