Department of Information Technology College Intern positions offer college students practical work experience through projects, which are related to the student's field of study. College Students employed in this class may be assigned to various County departments. This recruitment will be used to fill all current and future positions.
The Salary range is from $17.50 - $23.25 depending on College Units completed. - Lower Level - completion of 0 to 59 semester units (0 to 89-quarter units) $17.50.
- Upper Level - completion of at least 60 semester units (90-quarter units). $20.00.

About the roleThis internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world security operations in a government IT environment. You will work alongside experienced security analysts, support the day-to-day activities of the SOC and gaining practical experience across threat monitoring, vulnerability management, and security documentation.
What you will do- Monitor security alerts and events in Microsoft Sentinel under the supervision of a senior analyst
- Assist with triaging and documenting security incidents in the ticketing system
- Support vulnerability scanning activities using Tenable and help track remediation progress
- Help maintain security documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
- Participate in access review activities and identity hygiene tasks in Entra ID
- Research emerging threats, CVEs, and security advisories and summarize findings for the team
- Shadow senior analysts during incident investigations and threat hunting exercises
- Assist with preparing security awareness materials and training content
What we are looking forCurrently studying towards a degree or certification in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field at an accredited college or university
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)
- Familiarity with operating systems - Windows and Linux
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn
- Ability to handle sensitive information responsibly and maintain confidentiality
Nice to have- Exposure to SIEM tools, vulnerability scanners, or ticketing systems
- Any security certifications or coursework (CompTIA Security+, Google Cybersecurity Certificate, etc.)
- Familiarity with the OWASP Top 10 or NIST frameworks
