Job description

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT:

Under general supervision, a Golf Course Greenskeeper performs skilled work in the maintenance and care of golf course grounds, landscaped areas, irrigation systems, and related facilities. The position performs general greenskeeping duties and can serve as a lead worker over assigned staff when directed. This position can also specialize in one or more technical areas including irrigation management, pesticide and fertilizer application, and golf course improvement projects.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Performs daily golf course maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, raking, blowing, and debris removal

· Maintains greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and landscaped areas to established standards

· Operates tools, light, and heavy maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerators, sprayers, and other specialized machinery necessary to perform job duties

· Assists with course setup including cup cutting, tee placement, and bunker preparation

· Performs routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and facilities

· Works and operates equipment following safety procedures and uses safety equipment

· Assist with landscaping, tree work, and turf renovation


Additional Responsibilities:

· Lead small crews during daily assignments or weekend shifts

· Assist in training new employees on equipment and procedures

· Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and equipment needs to supervisory staff

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered


Education:

· High School Graduate or GED


Experience:

· 1-2 years’ experience in golf course, landscape, or a directly related field

· An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered



Licenses and Certifications Required:

· Driver’s License with clean driving history

· Certified for Pesticide Application within 90 days of employment


Preferred Qualifications and Knowledge:

· A working knowledge of golf maintenance methods, materials, equipment, fertilizers, and irrigation systems


Abilities:

· Follow and understand oral and written instructions and schedules

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers

· Punctual and ability to report to work on time

· Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required


Skills:

· Strong interpersonal, fiscal, decision-making, and supervisory skills

· Skill in operation of computer and of equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance.

· Growing turf grasses suitable for the game of golf

Working Environment:

· Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds

· Regular walking and standing to inspect golf course

· Works both indoors and outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, fumes, chemicals, and dust
