Entry-Level Environmental Engineer or Geologist

S&ME is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic entry-level Engineer or Geologist to join our Environmental team in Charleston, South Carolina. Join us at S&ME!
As an entry-level Environmental Engineer or Geologist, you will work closely under the direction of a licensed engineer and licensed geologist to gain extensive hands-on field experience learning how to prepare Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments and scoping of Phase 2 Site Assessments, conducting delineation and remediation of various contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas on commercial and/or industrial project sites.
Your Day-to-Day:
This position will include a mix of both field and in-office collaboration associated with conducting environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for various civil and environmental projects.
  • Field work will include:
    • Drilling of soil borings, installation of monitor wells, identification of the soils encountered, and determination of well construction, groundwater, and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis, as well as other testing and sampling, may be required.
    • Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.
  • In-office tasks will include:
    • Preparation of data tables, graphical presentation of data, and comparison of soil and groundwater data to State regulatory standards.
    • Assist in drafting reports and proposals for small projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in assessments and documentation.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related engineering field
  • 0-2 years of experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering or geology in some of the following practice areas:
    • environmental assessment methods.
    • due diligence processes.
    • regulatory permitting, and
    • environmental compliance.
  • Good business and technical writing skills.
  • Engineer in training (EIT) license, Geologist in training (GIT), or on track to obtain licensure.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:
  • Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially extended periods
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
