We’re looking for a skilled Generator Electrician to join our growing team. You’ll specialize in standby generator installation, maintenance, and repair, helping families and businesses stay powered through any outage. You’ll work with top brands like Briggs & Stratton, Generac, and Kohler, and be supported by an experienced team who values safety, precision, and pride in their work.

Job Responsibilities:

🔧 Responsibilities
  • Install, wire, and test residential and light commercial standby generators (air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems)

  • Perform load calculations and verify proper sizing, grounding, and transfer switch operation

  • Troubleshoot and repair generator electrical issues with professionalism and accuracy

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and performance testing

  • Maintain detailed documentation of work performed and communicate clearly with customers

  • Follow all Hutton safety standards and company procedures

Install and/or Upgrade a wide variety of electrical components ranging from generators, rewires, additions, panels, etc..

Provide electrical service and/or repair to customers’ homes, apartments, and businesses

Coordinate with utility service providers and local code officials to ensure proper guidelines are established.

Responsible for adhering to all OSHA safety standards and regulations including the use of proper PPE at all times

Keep truck clean, stocked and accurately inventoried

$35-$45 an hour plus bonuses

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 

  • Valid Virginia Journeyman or Master Electrician license (or equivalent experience)

  • 3+ years of residential or generator electrical experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of NEC codes, transfer switches, and standby power systems
    Factory Training from generator manufacturers is a plus. Generac, Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Cummins, etc. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Customer-first mindset and a commitment to excellence

Must be highly detail-oriented due to the nature of the electrical field to ensure safety for fellow technicians, self, and property.

Must be team-oriented 

Ability to communicate effectively with customers and  coworkers
 

Requirements:

A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Apprenticeship Certification Preferred but not required
Journeyman License Preferred but not required.

Valid driver’s license, and approved to drive by Company’s insurance carrier.

Willing to work hours outside of normal work schedule and on call schedule
