Position Summary

This entry-level position supports the Software Quality Assurance team in verifying the mathematical accuracy, statistical integrity, and regulatory compliance of game math models, paytables, and RNG-driven outcomes across Arrow International's electronic and social gaming products. The Associate SQA Engineer (Math) works under the guidance of senior team members to validate probability calculations, payback percentages, hit frequency, and volatility metrics before products are submitted for regulatory approval or released to market. Will interface with Game/System Development and Math/Systems staff to resolve issues in a timely manner, and will develop a working understanding of software test methodologies and procedures to ensure testing efficiency and high quality. 


Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Use programming skills to create validation programs that check the accuracy of game math
  • Execute test plans and test scripts to validate game math models, pay tables, and probability calculations for new and existing products
  • Follow all the SQA Work Instructions daily
  • Verify RTP (return-to-player), feature calculations against game math specifications
  • Submit and track any math-related discrepancies or product issues found during testing to ensure that they are resolved
  • Utilize spreadsheets, statistical tools, and required databases to analyze and confirm game outcome distributions
  • Provide input to the weekly project status report for each assigned project
  • Provide detailed testing notes and a completion report at the end of each project
  • Participate and provide input during root cause analysis for identified math or statistical discrepancies
  • Interface with Game Development and Math/Systems teams to effectively communicate and resolve reported issues in a timely manner before the gaming product is released
  • Develop a working understanding of software test methodologies, statistical validation techniques, and the overall product development lifecycle
  • Reproduce issues, when necessary, to assist Development in identifying the root cause of math-related defects
  • Escalate project risks or blockers to senior SQA Math team members and management, as needed


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the SQA Department on special projects
  • Support process improvement initiatives within the Math QA function
  • Build working relationships with upstream teams (Game Math, Systems, Development) that have a direct impact on Software QA
  • Continue to develop technical and statistical skills through on-the-job training and mentorship from senior team member

Requirements

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or a related field preferred 
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant QA, mathematics, or statistical analysis experience; recent graduates encouraged to apply 
  • Academic and/or working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and statistical functions 
  • Proficient in C++, C# and/or similar Object Oriented languages 
  • Academic and/or work experience with probability, statistics, or discrete mathematics coursework 
  • Basic knowledge of the gaming industry and game math concepts (RTP, volatility, hit frequency) a plus 

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge or experience with Object-Oriented programming languages
  • Knowledge or experience with Python, VBA, or other scripting languages for data analysis a plus
  • Knowledge or experience with SQL a plus
  • Working knowledge of probability, statistics, and combinatorics
  • Working knowledge or experience with TestRail
  • Working knowledge or experience with the JIRA Defect Management tool
  • Working knowledge of RNG (random number generator) concepts and game math principles a plus
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with other team members
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
