About SKF:

SKF has been making the world spin since 1907!

SKF Aerospace, a leader in aviation-related bearings, is looking for talented individuals for its largest factory located in Falconer, NY. Our 400+ employees produce components and bearings for engine and gearboxes for the Aerospace industry, as well as industrial & commercial applications. We currently have new challenges and opportunities including complex changes in aeroengine bearing materials, design and manufacture, optimization of our multimillion-dollar Heat Treatment facility as well as implementation of Business Excellence (LEAN) & other flow management programs.

As an SKF team member, you'll join 40,000 colleagues from more than 130 countries developing bearing technology and services that make rotation more reliable and sustainable. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. SKF aims to have net zero greenhouse gas emissions at all our production facilities by 2030.

SKF products keep vehicles rolling, power the machines that put food on your table, and even reach into the cosmos as part of the Mars rover mission. Founded in Sweden in 1907, today SKF is publicly traded on the Nasdaq Stockholm with annual sales in 2020 of approximately $10 billion.

Job Summary:

This fast-paced job is a mix of CAD (computer-aided design) work and manufacturing support.  Primary responsibilities include creating and maintaining 3D models and drawings for bearing components and assemblies to support Aerospace manufacturing.  The role also provides vital input on product manufacturability and feedback on ever-improving manufacturing processes.  We are seeking an experienced professional, but we will also consider entry-level applicants with the necessary skillsets.

This engineer manages the technical design and CAD functions within the Product Engineering Team and supports Application and Product Engineers in producing CAD drawings based on their inputs incorporating customer specifications and results from calculations.  Responsibilities include interpreting customer technical requirements and translating them into an SKF offering, including proposal and 1st tier drawings for all product platforms, evaluating technical risks, verifying product selection, and analyzing product field service and revision history.

The engineer works with the SKF Aerospace team to bring game-changing products to the aerospace industry's most demanding applications - for customers like Boeing, Airbus, General Electric, Pratt and Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Bell Flight, Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky, etc.  These products cover a full spectrum of aircraft structural and rotating equipment bearing applications, including rolling element bearings, plain bearings, sealing solutions and composite airframe products.  Within each category, products vary widely in size, complexity, loading, and other critical application characteristics, making each solution highly unique to its application.

Modeling and drafting tasks support both NPI (new product introductions) and changes/improvements to existing products.  You'll support the manufacturing organization when issues  arise.  Both PTC (Creo/Windchill) and Siemens (Teamcenter/NX) products will be used.  Maintaining standards and work instructions for drawing layouts, CAD best practices, and manufacturing processes is an important aspect of this role.  Designers may also perform static and dynamic analysis using SKF proprietary software.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred).
  • Experience with commercial CAD and PLM software - PTC and/or Siemens preferred.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to work as an individual as well as in a team environment, including leading small projects.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T.

The following qualifications would be considered a plus:

  • Calculation experience involving statics and dynamics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ABMA standards.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Knowledge of a variety of programming languages (C++, Python, Visual Basic).

This position is to be located in Falconer, NY., but will support our Falconer, NY and Muskegon, MI factories.
