Job description

TrendAI, the global AI security leader and enterprise business unit of Trend Micro, empowers organizations with full AI visibility and consolidated security that inspires confidence, drives innovation, and eliminates risk.
At TrendAI, we're always seeking exceptional talent; people who want to collaborate with the best and push boundaries together. Here, your work goes beyond building a career. You will help protect what matters and play a vital role in shaping a safer, more trustworthy AI-powered future.
AI Fearlessly.

Location: This is a hybrid role with a minimum in-office requirement of 3 days per week in the Ottawa, ON office located at 40 Hines Rd, Ottawa, ON K2K 2M5.

Position Summary:

TrendAI, a leader in cybersecurity, is at the forefront of developing advanced cloud security services. We are currently seeking a talented software developer to join our Vision One Container Security team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and supporting robust security solutions that safeguard containers throughout their lifecycle.

We are looking for someone with exceptional programming skills, a strong background in software design, and an eagerness to adopt new technologies. You will play a key role in shaping our architectural decisions and will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers.

A key focus of this role is the adoption of AI-enabled development and agentic architectures. You will help shape how our team leverages AI to accelerate design, delivery, and operations of container security services - ensuring our security innovations ship faster without compromising on quality or safety.

Our team values innovative thinking and encourages members to approach problems with unique perspectives. We are passionate about experimenting with new technologies and improving processes. Your creativity and ability to solve real customer problems through high-quality code will be crucial.

If you are driven by innovation and committed to making the digital world safer, we would love to hear from you.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Cares about what they do and is proactive and self-directed

  • Has a great attention to detail in identifying issues and opportunities ahead of time

  • Can take ownership of a task up and down the stack from inception to completion

  • Collaborates as a great team player to iterate on solutions that delight our customers

  • Strives for open and honest communication with respect for others

  • Is passionate about documenting your knowledge and work, and has a desire to share what you learn with the rest of the team

  • Is excited to apply AI-enabled development workflows ethically and effectively to real engineering problems

As a senior software developer on the Vision One team in your day-to-day you will:

  • Build and architect rich AWS Cloud native applications

  • Work with your squad in short sprints to achieve regular business and customer outcomes

  • Use DevOps principles to deliver incremental improvements or features to production multiple times a day

  • Own and operate your team's services, respond to business-hours incidents, and participate in blameless post-incident reviews

  • Write non-application code, such as infrastructure as code, unit tests, metrics, monitoring, alarms etc.

  • Leverage AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Kiro, Copilot) to accelerate development, prototype solutions, explore multiple implementation approaches in parallel, and build comprehensive test suites that surface edge cases

  • Contribute to the evolution of our services with an eye toward agentic architectures and AI-augmented operations (e.g., automated triage, intelligent runbooks).

  • Take time for learning and continuous improvement to build your skills and pursue interests not directly related to current work tasks.

  • Look for opportunities to share your knowledge with other team members and the wider organization, particularly around the safe and effective use of AI in engineering workflows.

Key qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with complex application development including debugging, analysis, and optimization

  • Proven track record of working on complex problems without clear solutions, and proactively driving the development and delivery of business value

  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies and ability to get up to speed quickly

  • Capable of understanding existing designs and technology choices for your team's services and suggesting appropriate adjustments when necessary

  • Skilled at writing maintainable code and building maintainable services (i.e. automated tests, de-bug code, complete documentation)

  • Proven experience - or strong interest - in using AI tooling to enhance personal and team productivity, with sound judgment about when and how to apply it

Relevant skills & experience:

  • Experience with AWS Cloud native application development, including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.

  • Knowledge of Serverless architecture and concepts and AWS Services or equivalent on other cloud providers

  • Experience with microservice architectures, REST API development and event-driven architectures

  • Experience with automated Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions or AWS CDK

  • Proficiency in one or more programming and scripting languages and a preference for automation over manual toil

  • Knowledge or experience developing secure code and/or working in a security space

  • Interest in agentic architectures and AI-augmented systems - building services that AI agents can safely consume, orchestrate, or operate

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing business priorities, with the ability to pivot quickly and effectively under shifting demands and tight deadlines

  • Continuous learning mindset, with a passion for keeping up with industry trends and technologies

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively within a team based in Canada, while frequently collaborating with other teams spread across multiple time zones

  • Experience in developing applications on Kubernetes using Golang is advantageous

  • Contributions to CNCF or other open-source projects are a plus
