Position Overview

SteerBridge is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone early in their software engineering career to learn full-stack development practices and contribute to features under the guidance of senior engineers. This individual will support mission-critical claims analytics and operational software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Write clean, well-documented code to support full-stack feature development
  • Assist with implementing and testing small, well-defined UI and API features under guidance
  • Support senior engineers in debugging and resolving software defects
  • Learn and apply the team's coding standards, tools, and development processes
  • Participate in peer code reviews to build familiarity with team practices
  • Assist with writing and maintaining unit tests
  • Document code and contribute to technical documentation as directed
  • Learn the team's domain, codebase, and Modern Disability Claims systems
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance; an active Secret or Top Secret clearance also satisfies this requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 0-4 years of experience in software engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, and a modern front-end framework such as React.js
  • Basic understanding of Node.js and RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with Git and version-control workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively and receive feedback and mentorship from senior team members
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework, internship, or project experience with full-stack development
  • Exposure to MERN or PERN stack technologies, including MongoDB, Express.js, and PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Familiarity with healthcare or claims data
