Who We Are:
The Gill Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of honeycomb, high performance floor panels, cargo compartment liners and original equipment for passenger and freighter aircraft. The company also excels in many other types of reinforced plastics including interior sandwich panels for creating structures such as aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core and related products.
The Gill Corporation is seeking a Scientist/Engineer I to be responsible for conducting laboratory project activities with guidance from more senior employees for the development of new products, processes, improvement of existing products and processes, and solving of specific problems relating to the manufacturing/quality of various products.
Reporting to the R&D Manager, they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Executes a technical approach to a problem based on product specifications, problem statement and/or desired product improvement. Seeks input from more senior employees throughout the project.
  • Seeks guidance on formulation chemistry of resins and interpretation of tests results and other pertinent information to adjust formulation and/or process variables as needed.
  • Assists in developing processes for the manufacturing of new or existing products.
  • Coordinates work with laboratory technicians, training with them as appropriate.
  • Records all formulations, observations and test results in detail and maintaining the information in a manner such that other personnel could continue the project work. Performs all aspects of laboratory functions.
  • Helps to coordinate and oversee production of new products, improvement of existing products and /or processes and problem-solving solutions.
  • Performs analytical testing and/or physical and mechanical testing according to specifications and procedures with guidance from more senior employees as needed.
  • Presents data within and to other departments as required, with guidance from more senior employees as needed.
  • Develops an understanding of the basic theory of composite material testing and behavior.
  • Makes and executes recommendations for the improvement of manufacturing efficiencies, product quality, laboratory practices and safety issues.
  • Provides assistance to other departments as assigned.
  • Reports project progress and prepares final reports at the conclusion of the project.
  • Engages with customer and suppliers on project status and product requirements with guidance from more senior employees.
  • Other essential duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in a scientific or engineering field or relevant work experience.
  • Advanced degree or coursework desirable.
  • Training in composite technology or mechanical/analytical testing is a plus
  • Relevant internship or co-op experience is a plus as this is typically an entry level position.
