Job description

ICF is seeking a motivated 2027 Summer Intern, Software Developer to join our growing technology team. This opportunity is designed for students interested in software development, low-code/no-code platforms, process automation, cloud technologies, and emerging AI capabilities.

As a Software Developer Intern, you will work alongside experienced developers, analysts, architects, and/or technology professionals to design, configure, develop, test, and deploy technology solutions that address real-world business and client needs. Depending on business needs and project assignments, interns may support platform-specific teams and technologies such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Appian or other enterprise application platforms.

This is an entry-level, 10-week, full-time internship expected to begin in June and end in August. At this time, we are unable to provide housing or relocation assistance for this position.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in the design, development, configuration, testing, and deployment of enterprise software applications and technology solutions.

  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Support the creation of workflows, automations, user experiences, business rules, integrations, and application features.

  • Participate in software development activities using a combination of low-code platforms, configuration tools, and traditional coding practices.

  • Assist with application testing, troubleshooting, quality assurance, and defect resolution.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge-sharing materials, and project deliverables.

  • Gain exposure to artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and emerging technology capabilities.

  • Support integration efforts involving APIs, enterprise data, cloud services, and external systems.

  • Participate in Agile delivery activities, including planning, user story development, sprint ceremonies, and team collaboration.

  • Learn and apply software development best practices related to security, accessibility, performance, maintainability, and user experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • By start date, a minimum of 15 completed college-level credit hours.

  • Due to federal contract requirements, individuals must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or planning to pursue a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

  • Interest in software development, application development, process automation, cloud technologies, data solutions, or artificial intelligence.

  • Exposure to programming concepts through coursework, academic projects, internships, personal projects, hackathons, or similar experiences.

  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages or technologies such as Java, Python, JavaScript, SQL, HTML/CSS, or related technologies.

  • Exposure to low-code or enterprise application platforms such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Appian, Microsoft Power Platform, or similar technologies.

  • Familiarity with APIs, integrations, data management concepts, or cloud platforms.

  • Understanding of software development methodologies such as Agile.

  • Exposure to collaboration and development tools such as Git, GitHub, Jira, or Confluence.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
