In this vital role you'll combine clinical nursing skills with preventive health initiatives to keep employees healthy, productive, and safe - while supporting the mission and goals of a world-class health system.
What the RN PRN will do

  • Deliver direct, patient-centered occupational health care using current best practices and evidence-based occupational health principles in a very busy, high-acuity ambulatory setting
  • Coordinate and manage medical surveillance programs and employee health services in keeping with federal, state, and professional regulations.
  • Serve as a clinical resource, educator, and mentor - provide direction and support to team members and employees, help maintain program consistency, and participate in targeted training to raise the standard of care across the department.
  • Manage clinic inventory using budgetary knowledge and surveillance resources to keep the unit stocked adequately
  • Facilitate referrals to internal and community providers, monitor follow-up, and help navigate return-to-work processes using basic case management skills.
  • Enable and support pre-employment new hires to smoothly complete the occupational health screening process
  • Support compliance initiatives related to ADA, FMLA, Joint Commission standards, and Alcohol & Drug Testing (NIDA guidelines).
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary health care team to improve employee outcomes, streamline workflows, and advance occupational health programs.
  • Champion continuous quality improvement efforts that enhance services, reduce risk, and contribute to organizational goals.
Shift: PRN w/a need for 1-2 days in 2-week pay period w/additional coverage during flu season & when staff are on PTO
Office hours are: Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4pm (no weekends or holidays), 4th floor Main Hospital
Required qualifications
  • Current RN MD or compact licensure at time of hire
  • Active BLS/CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent nursing experience, ideally in Occupational Medicine, Emergency Department, Outpatient, or Urgent Care settings and demonstrated clinical leadership/resource
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program required
Preferred qualifications
  • Certification through the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (COHN or COHN-S) is highly desirable.
Why this role is rewarding
  • Make a visible difference: your work helps employees stay healthy and perform at their best - from preventing workplace injuries to supporting safe return-to-work.
  • Professional growth: opportunities for ongoing training, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and experience with medical surveillance and regulatory programs that broaden your occupational health expertise.
  • Meaningful teamwork: join a supportive, high-functioning team committed to excellence and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Be part of a respected health system: contribute directly to organizational quality and safety initiatives that reflect the values and objectives of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Who succeeds here
  • RNs with a strong clinical foundation who are motivated to specialize in occupational health.
  • Inspired high-achieving RN's who have questioning minds, like to work in a fast-paced ambulatory clinic setting, and have excellent time management and critical thinking skills and like to solve problems
  • Practical knowledge of medical surveillance, case coordination, and regulatory requirements, with a willingness to learn and grow

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and compassionate - able to balance clinical care with programmatic responsibilities.
