Lead, Manufacturing Technician I, Brass

Position Summary: The Lead, Manufacturing Technician, Brass is responsible for ensuring that production goals are met while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality. They oversee a team of technicians and ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA, SAAMI, and SIG SAUER. The Lead, Manufacturing Technician, Brass is intended for individuals who have extensive manufacturing experience or a comparable skillset. They need to have excellent communication and time management skills. Leads are expected to work closely with Quality, Engineering, and other supporting departments to provide the highest quality product to our customers.
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Train and mentor new technicians to SIG Work Instruction Standards while maintaining consistent progressive communication with leadership.
  • Work closely with Research & Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and other supporting departments to facilitate coordination with production.
  • Support Engineering in prototype tooling design testing and production implementation.
  • Verify, scrap quantities, OSP weight and quantities for shipping preparation.
  • Use hard gauging, optical measuring systems, and precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers, as well as visual aids, to ensure conformance to engineering standards.
  • Assist in tool procurement, act as a liaison between Operators and Supervisors, optimizing workflow, coordinating with external departments, and proactively addressing manufacturing line concerns.
  • Assist with Quality and Engineering for continuous improvement efforts, such as machine run-ins, and equipment upgrades.
  • Use automated wash systems to clean lubricant and coolant inherent to the manufacturing processes from produced parts.
  • Optimize production efficiencies by adjusting machinery and equipment settings as needed.
  • Participate in assigned structured problem solving and root cause analysis activities.
  • Fill in during supervisor absence, completing shift responsibilities.
  • Facilitate with Production Coordinators and Planning department to ensure necessary delivery of components to meet scheduling demands.
  • Distribute and verify completion of documentation related to assigned work, including control plans, tracer tickets, and clean-up check lists.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, or inter-facility coordination.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts, or work in other functional areas and/or facilities based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, previous manufacturing experience is a required and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate advanced, documented proficiency in multiple manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Able to lead daily stand-up meetings.
  • Able to train and mentor technicians.
  • Ability to read and complete required paperwork which includes performing required calculations on work instructions, scrap documentation and control plans.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Basic understanding of Oracle, and able to perform at entry level within the system.
  • Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others in English, both verbally and in written form.

Working Conditions:
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
