Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise to support the site's electrical infrastructure through optimization, troubleshooting, project management, design, installation, commissioning, start-up, and validation skills. Efforts focus on providing long term support for the operation and maintenance of existing facilities with respect to the electrical power generation and distribution systems. The incumbent serves as the owner of the electrical systems and the electrical business process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Owner of the site electrical business process which provides direction for maintaining the electrical infrastructure
  • Works under very general supervision and guidance, with more detailed instructions on new assignments. Works with manager to establish priorities and timelines
  • Uses judgment and discretion to solve a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Seeks guidance from supervisor and more senior peers as needed when determining appropriate courses of action. Regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion regarding matters of significance
  • Research, design, test and install electrical apparatus, components and equipment
  • Plan, direct and coordinate activities in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems
  • Serve as electrical system owner and primary technical consultant by providing electrical engineering expertise, direction, and work oversight to contractors, vendors and suppliers
  • Review schematics plans and procedures and make recommendations to management for equipment selection, design, installation, commissioning, and validation. Upon approval, coordinate and/or conduct activities required to implement recommendations
  • Provide support for selecting, installing, operating, and troubleshooting instruments and controls associated with utility systems which may include fire protection
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to prepare controlled documents in support of the start-up, commissioning, validation and operation of the mechanical/HVAC, electrical and utility systems
  • Properly executes Confined Space Entry and Lock Tag Try procedures
  • Understands and executes Emergency Action Plans and Procedures related to the work area
  • Participates actively in all safety programs established in the plant Keeps work are clean and free of hazards
  • Leads efforts to reduce sources of waste
  • Properly disposes of any wastes generated
  • Makes proper notification on environmental upset, releases, and or hazardous material spills according to procedures

Electrician 2 Skill Sets:

  • High Voltage

  • Conduit/Wire

Electrician 2 additionally has at least 2 of the 3 skills below:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Skilled in 120v control wiring and 3 phase 480v motor starters
  • Welding and Fabrication knowledge and experience
  • Works as team player
  • Follows and promotes safe work practices
  • Read and interpret documents and instructions (written, oral, diagram, schedules)
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Calculate figures/amounts and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited Standardization exists
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC Hardware/Software, Variable speed drives, hydraulics, pneumatics

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3 or more years' experience in functional role

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Prolong standing or in stationary position
  • Complete repetitive movements such as typing
  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
  • Complete repetitive movements
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions

$110,000 - $140,000 per year
