As an entry-level fiber optics technician, you install, repair, and remove fiber optic cable. In this role, you may splice wires to help set up telecommunications systems, study building plans to determine the best places to lay cable in residential and commercial facilities, and test network connections to ensure overall quality. As an entry-level employee, your main job is to learn more about your position under the supervision of a more experienced technician as you work towards promotion into a regular role. This job frequently requires performing jobs in high places, working while standing, using ladders, digging, and working in various weather conditions while carrying tools and equipment.
