Job description

Position Summary

We are hiring a Fiber Optic & Structured Cabling Technician to handle all aspects of fiber and structured cabling for commercial and industrial projects — from installation and termination to fusion splicing, testing, and certification. You will work on everything from single drops to full multi-building campus systems, installed to BICSI and industry standards under the direction of our in-house RCDD and PMP.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test single-mode and multimode fiber optic cable in indoor and outdoor/OSP environments.

• Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing; build and dress fiber enclosures, trays, and patch panels. • Install and terminate copper structured cabling (Cat5e/6/6A), including jacks, patch panels, and racks. • Test and certify fiber and copper links using OTDR, power meter/light source, and cable certifiers; interpret and document results.

• Pull cable and install pathways, cable tray, conduit, J-hooks, innerduct, and support structures. • Read and work from blueprints, cut sheets, and site drawings; label and document per BICSI/TIA standards. • Dress, organize, and manage cabling in racks, IDFs/MDFs, and demarcation points for clean, standards-compliant installs.

• Troubleshoot and repair faults in fiber and copper infrastructure; restore service efficiently. • Maintain accurate as-built documentation, test records, and material usage for each project. • Follow all OSHA safety practices and maintain a clean, organized, professional job site.

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in fiber optic and/or structured cabling installation.

• Ability to terminate and test both fiber and copper; familiarity with fusion splicing.

• Experience operating test equipment (OTDR, power meter, certifier) is preferred, or willingness to be trained. • Able to read blueprints, floor plans, and cabling documentation.

• Comfortable with hand and power tools and working from ladders and lifts.

• Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record; able to pass a background check and drug screen. • Reliable, safety-minded, and detail-oriented with strong documentation habits.

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

• BICSI Installer 1 / Installer 2 (Copper or Optical Fiber) or FOA CFOT certification.

• Experience with outside-plant (OSP) fiber, aerial/underground placement, and directional boring support. • OSHA 10/30 certification.

• Familiarity with data-center or industrial cabling environments.

• Experience terminating to TIA-568 standards and producing certified test reports (Fluke, EXFO, etc.).

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work on ladders, lifts, and in elevated positions. • Comfortable working in ceilings, crawl spaces, trenches, outdoors, and varied weather conditions. • Local and occasional regional travel across Southwest Louisiana; occasional overtime for project deadlines.

What We Offer

• Competitive hourly pay based on experience and certifications.

• Health/benefits package, paid time off, and paid holidays.

• Paid BICSI/FOA training and certification advancement, mentored by an in-house RCDD. • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance for field work (role-dependent).

• Stable, established employer with 75+ years serving Southwest Louisiana.
