Description

The OSP Fiber Puller is responsible for installing and pulling fiber‑optic cable through underground conduit systems, handholes, manholes, and other outside plant pathways. This role involves physical labor, safe operation of pulling equipment, and close coordination with OSP construction crews to ensure successful cable installation for telecom networks. Responsibilities include cable handling, equipment operation, site preparation, and adherence to rigorous safety standards. Key Responsibilities Fiber Pulling & Installation Pull and route fiber‑optic cables through pre-installed conduit systems, ducts, and underground pathways. Handle and organize fiber cables carefully to prevent twisting, kinking, or damage during installation. Operate fiber‑pulling machinery such as winches and mechanical cable pullers to facilitate long‑distance conduit pulls. Job Site Operations Work closely with other OSP crew members to coordinate pulls, manage distances, and guide cables through bends, vaults, and access points. Maintain an organized worksite, including cable staging, coil management, and proper storage of tools and materials. Communicate obstacles in conduit paths (e.g., snags, obstructions) and assist in troubleshooting to clear pathways. Safety & Compliance Follow all OSP safety protocols, including use of PPE such as gloves, protective eyewear, and steel‑toed boots.
