Job description

With five locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area, Northwest Eye is among the largest specialty eye care providers in the Midwest. Our environment is both dynamic and adaptable! Northwest Eye has a current opening for a Orthoptist at our Woodbury location.
POSITION SUMMARY
To accurately and efficiently perform an extensive number of advanced level data collection functions as delegated by the physician to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patient's conditions and to do so in a way that instills patient confidence in the treatment. Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced clinical staff. Starting pay is $34.00-38.00/hour.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessment of children and adults with strabismus, amblyopia, diplopia and disturbances of binocular function
  • Performs visual assessment of non-verbal patients using teller acuity cards, visual preference assessment and fixation assessment
  • Binocular vision is assessed using stereo testing including Titmu, Randot E, Randot stereo tests, Lang and Haploscopic instruments such as the Synoptophore or Troposcope
  • Ocular alignment is assessed using all methods available including prism and cover, single cover, simultaneous prism and cover, Maddox rod, Hirschberg, Krimsky and knowledge of the Bielschowsky three step test
  • Vergence amplitudes for phoric deviations, both vertical and horizontal are measured when necessary
  • Treatment plans for amblyopia; diplopia and other forms of strabismus are developed in accordance with the referring Ophthalmologist and carried out by the Orthopist
  • Press on prism and sphere application
  • Bangerter foil treatment and application
  • Advanced lensometry, including measurements of prism in glasses
  • Knowledge of visual malingering and the tests necessary to make the diagnosis
  • Assisting in in-office procedure for adjustable suture
  • Specific skill may include refraction, visual field testing, electrophysiologic testing, low vision testing and surgical assisting
  • Communicates prescriptions and refills to pharmacies and documents in patient's charts
  • Knowledge of equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration
  • Interact with MD's, OD's, Clinic Manager, Executive Director
  • Interact with other members of the clinical team

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BA or BS degree
  • American Orthoptic Council certification
  • COT/COMT certified preferred
  • Maintain certification in CPR
