The Opportunity
In this role, you will help shape the future of the power grid by supporting the delivery of advanced Grid Quality Solutions across North America. As a Project Technical Engineer, you will work on engineering activities that strengthen grid stability, improve performance, and contribute to the wider energy transition. You will manage technical work across the full project lifecycle-supporting engineering design, construction, and commissioning while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners. Grounded in real project execution, your work will influence safety, reliability, and compliance within high-voltage substation environments. This role gives you the opportunity to apply your electrical engineering training to impactful, hands-on projects while gaining exposure to technologies such as GIS, PASS, and modern BIM workflows. You will contribute to delivering efficient, cost-effective solutions that help customers operate a more resilient, high-performing grid.
How you'll make an impact
  • Lead Secondary engineering (Control and Protection )activities across the full project lifecycle of AIS and GIS projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV substations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Develop control and protection scope document,
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for Secondary Engineering .
  • Drive innovation and cost-effective solutions in proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and contract standards.
  • Support Installation commissioning team during construction phases.
  • Evaluate risks and implement mitigation strategies with Project manager Engineering
  • Promote continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Develop base and detailed design documents /drawings based on customer requirements.
  • Lead the development of new solutions for complex proposal/projects.
  • Drive the completion of all engineering activities on projects.
  • Create work plans and cost estimates, ensuring quality deliverables.

Your background
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical /mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6+years of experience in electromechanical engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in developing Protection single-line diagrams, Protection Philosophy ,Communication Architecture , AC and Dc Schematics design for various bus configuration.
  • In depth Knowledge in substation Protection relays ( Hitachi/ SEL etc. ), relay configuration ,load flow short circuit analysis ,Arc flash, and Protection setting ,defining Equipment technical parameters ,CT/VT sizing ,Transmission Relay Load Ability Study etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding in substation Automation ,NERC and cyber security requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, high-voltage air-insulated and gas-insulated substation technologies.
  • Background in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project environments.
  • Proficient in Relay setting & configuration software, Drawing tools (E3 / AutoCAD as applicable).
  • Possesses a Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Must have valid work authorization permitting employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
