Role Summary
Join a team where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and designers, contribute to the development of high-voltage transmission and distribution documentation, and build your technical foundation. You’ll gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and PLS-CADD to extract and organize data for construction drawings. This role offers the opportunity to participate in real projects, learn utility standards and safety codes, and grow your drafting skills in a collaborative environment. This role is ideal for someone eager to learn, adaptable, and ready to take the first step in a rewarding design career.
Qualifications
  • Associates of Applied Science degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CAD) or
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 0-6 years of experience
  • Foundational understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation.
  • Interest in high-voltage substation design. Experience is a plus.
  • Introductory ability to effectively read/understand and develop construction drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, working with individuals from various offices and in various disciplines.
  • Developing analytical and organizational skills, with growing attention to detail and a willingness to learn problem-solving approaches.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn, with a foundational ability to collaborate with project teams in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Developing written and verbal communication skills with a strong willingness to learn and engage effectively with team members.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating and revising drawings and documentation for substation projects, in AutoCAD, from scope documents, engineering sketches and/or verbal instructions.
  • Coordinate with technical personnel to gather and record data for design projects and complete as-built and record print revisions from marked drawings.
  • Assist in preparing applications and supporting documentation for engineering permits when necessary.
  • Engage in mentorship and structured learning opportunities with experienced engineers and designers to build foundational skills.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality of your own work through self-review and adherence to established standards.
  • Support client interactions by communicating professionally and learning to understand client expectations.
  • Support assigned tasks while learning to work within defined scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in occasional site walks for current projects.  Less than 5% travel.
