Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Germantown, MD. 
This position is expected to begin in Summer/Fall 2026. 
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below: 

  • Assist in the planning, execution and oversight of geotechnical field exploration and laboratory test programs. 
  • Evaluate subsurface conditions to determine geotechnical engineering properties and parameters of soil and bedrock. 
  • Perform geotechnical analyses for shallow foundations including bearing capacity, sliding and settlement. 
  • Conduct seepage and stability analyses for dams, levees, tunnels and natural and man-made slopes. 
  • Design deep foundations for buildings, bridges, tanks, and other structures. 
  • Design pavements, retaining walls, sheet piles, and other structures. 
  • Perform liquefaction analysis, site class assessment and seismic hazard analysis. 
  • Assist in the preparation of geotechnical data reports, geotechnical design reports, memoranda and technical specifications. 
  • Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed. 
  • Oversee subsurface investigation programs and adhere to AECOM's safety culture. 
  • Participate in construction oversight and geotechnical exploration. 
  • Travel domestically and internationally for project needs. 
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with strong coursework in Geotechnical Engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
  • Must have a valid U.S driver's license and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally 50% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Ability to adhere to project schedules and budgets.
  • EIT Certification.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, gINT, MathCAD, OpenGround).

  • Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and/or professional conferences is required.
