Purpose of Position

We are seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to support the specification, design, build, integration, documentation, and maintenance of automation and control systems for optical test benches, in both R&D and production environments. This engineer will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams including optical, mechanical, metrology, and software engineers to develop and support precision test equipment used to evaluate complex optical systems.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Support engineers in specifying and documenting hardware requirements for optical test stations.
  • Design and document assemblies used to build optical test bench automation and control systems, including motor, detector, camera, data acquisition, and timing circuitry and associated wiring and cable assemblies.
  • Translate designs into working hardware by building prototype or breadboard assemblies and coordinating outsourced fabrication of sub-systems as needed.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, wiring, and system integration issues on existing test benches, and repair or upgrade benches as appropriate.
  • Perform work in cleanroom and molecular cleanroom environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong foundation in AC/DC circuits, basic electronics, and electrical measurements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in circuit design with Altium Designer.
  • Experience with interfacing with scientific digital cameras.
  • Familiarity with optics, optical metrology, and image processing.
  • Familiarity with Linux / Unix environments.
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments’ LabWindows.

The range for this position is $68,301.00 - $93,914.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
