Electrical Design Engineer – Control Panels


Company: Space Saver Distribution, Inc. (SSDi)

Location: Las Vegas, NV (on-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 per year, depending on experience

Schedule: Monday–Thursday 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, Friday 6:00 AM–12:00 PM (early Friday release every week)


About the Role

Space Saver Distribution, Inc. (SSDi) is a UL 508A panel shop in Las Vegas building fueling control panels and electrical enclosures for major retail fuel customers. We're hiring an Electrical Design Engineer who can grow with us.


The job: take a customer contract, understand what's being asked, and turn it into panel layouts, wiring layouts, and bills of material (BOMs) the production floor can build from. Day to day, that means reading construction drawings and panel schedules, verifying the electrical design is right, drawing in AutoCAD, and building accurate BOMs.


What we build is learnable. Our products are custom, but most builds follow standard layouts and wiring, and the rules behind them are consistent. Someone with a solid electrical foundation picks up our specifics quickly and starts turning jobs over to production fast. We want someone who can look at a customer's panel schedule and know whether it's right—why a breaker is sized the way it is, whether the panel rating fits the load—not just someone who draws what they're handed.


We're actively building out our design standards. Over time, this person will help identify repeatable patterns in our work and standardize and simplify our builds—a real chance to shape how we work rather than slot into an existing process.


The ideal candidate has 2+ years of electrical design or control panel experience. We'll also consider strong early-career candidates with a solid electrical and layout foundation.


What You'll Do

  • Read customer contracts, specifications, and construction drawings and translate them into buildable designs
  • Review customer panel schedules to verify panel ratings, breaker sizing, and component selection—and recommend the correct configuration when the customer's spec doesn't match the application
  • Create panel layouts and wiring layouts in AutoCAD
  • Build accurate, complete BOMs for production
  • Manage design revisions and keep drawings, models, and documentation organized and current
  • Work with sales and production to resolve questions and keep jobs moving
  • Help develop design standards and identify opportunities to simplify repeat builds


Requirements

  • 2+ years of electrical design, control panel, or related experience preferred
  • Electrical foundation strong enough to understand the reasoning behind a design (breaker sizing, component placement, wiring)—a degree or coursework in Electrical Engineering / Electrical-Electronics Technology, or equivalent hands-on electrical experience
  • Able to read construction electrical drawings and panel schedules and independently verify that panel ratings and breaker sizing are correct for the load
  • Layout and CAD experience (AutoCAD preferred, or the aptitude to pick it up quickly)
  • Working understanding of BOMs and technical drawings
  • Production-first mindset—documentation that's clear and practical for the shop floor
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, comfortable working through ambiguity
  • Strong communication skills across sales, design, and production


Preferred (Not Required)

  • Autodesk Inventor experience
  • Familiarity with NEC or UL-listed equipment
  • Exposure to control panels, electrical enclosures, or fueling/distribution systems
