DESCRIPTION
The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one (1) Sewer Collections Maintenance Worker vacancy in the Utilities and Engineering Department. This position is to perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the city sanitary sewer collection system; and to provide maintenance support in the field on special projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Sewer Collections Maintenance Worker I - This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. Maintenance Worker I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Sewer Collections Maintenance Worker II - This is the journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional supervision of less experienced staff, and for performing the most complex work of the unit.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Sewer Collections Maintenance Worker I
Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor; may receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Maintenance Worker.
Sewer Collections Maintenance Worker II
Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor; may receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Maintenance Worker.
EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Respond to complaints and answer questions from the public.
Perform routine maintenance work in the care of tools and supplies.
Train less experienced staff in proper work methods and procedures.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Perform semi-skilled work ibn the installation, repair, and maintenance of the sanitary sewer lines, mains, and related facilities.
Operate vacuum/jet rodder truck to clean sewers trunk lines and laterals, and vacuum manhole/catch basins.
Perform maintenance and repair of lift stations and related pipes, fittings, electrical panels, and other equipment.
Check timing of wastewater pumps; make necessary repairs or replacements.
Operate equipment including backhoe, jackhammer, compressor, and concrete saws to repair sewer and storm drain line breaks.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:

License and Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California Class C driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California Class B driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements within twelve months of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a forklift certificate within twelve months of appointment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training, and work experience to be followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates.Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City's Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.

VSP Vision is provided to each employee at no cost. Additionally, vision coverage for family members is available at a 60/40 shared cost.
    • Hanford Employee Care Connection (City-sponsored clinic): free and available to all insured full-time employees and covered dependents. Medical care offering same-day appointments, little to no copays, and comprehensive healthcare.
    • Life insurance: $50,000 City paid policy.
    • Tuition Reimbursement: A tuition reimbursement plan is available for work-related study for up to $5,000 per fiscal year.
    • Longevity: Employees shall receive a stipend upon completion of the following consecutive years of active service with the City of Hanford. The City Manager shall have the discretion to provide longevity pay based on cumulative years of service at another public entity (State, County, or City municipality) in a management and/or technical level position.
      • Five (5) years of service: 2.5%
      • Ten (10) years of service: an additional 2.5%
      • Fifteen (15) years of service: an additional 2.5%
      • Twenty (20) years of service, an additional 2.5
        Maximum allowance of 10%.
    • Deferred Compensation / Employer Match: Employees are eligible to receive matched employer contributions for deferred compensation up to $75 per pay period.
