Job description

JOB TITLE: Driver Education Instructor
DEPARTMENT: Employment Services
SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Employment Services Director
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
JOB STATUS: PRN/Sub, Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: Evening & Weekend Availability; flexible scheduling
Summary:
Provide driver education instruction and evaluation services to individuals, including those receiving vocational rehabilitation services. This role focuses on teaching safe driving skills, assessing participant readiness, and supporting individuals in achieving independence through driver training. Based in Corydon, IN. Provides services in Washington, Crawford, Harrison, Floyd, and Clark Counties.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct driver evaluations to assess participants' ability to operate vehicles safely and independently
• Provide individualized driver training, including basic maneuvers, parking, lane changes, and traffic navigation
• Develop and maintain driving schedules based on participant needs
• Maintain accurate documentation and submit required reports for Vocational Rehabilitation and private pay participants
• Serve as a liaison with Vocational Rehabilitation counselors and other stakeholders
• Track and report participant progress, including recommendations for additional training
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and proper working condition of training vehicles and equipment
• Complete and submit mileage, fuel usage, and related reports
Qualifications & Skills:
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to teach and coach individuals with varying skill levels
• Strong observational and evaluation skills
• Ability to operate and instruct others on standard and modified vehicles
• Strong organizational and scheduling skills
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Basic technology skills (email, mobile devices, electronic timekeeping systems)
Physical & Work Requirements:
• Must be at least 25 years of age
• Ability to safely operate vehicles for extended periods
• Ability to demonstrate driving techniques and respond to real-time driving situations
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance
Certifications & Training Requirements:
• Completion of Instructor Certification within 45 days of hire
• Maintain driver training instructor certification
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Preventing Disease Transmission training
• Certified Restraint Training (CRT)
