Job description

The mission of Pfeiffer University Department of Athletics is to strive for excellence in academics and athletics, while embracing opportunity, good sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. In keeping with this mission, the role of the Women's Basketball Assistant Coach is to support a quality varsity program which will challenge and develop the physical, mental and personal abilities of Division III student-athletes.
10 month full-time staff position

Reporting to the Head Women's Basketball Coach

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in all aspects of coaching basketball including thorough knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies and player development.
  • Assist in recruitment of student-athletes on the regional level. This position supports the women's basketball program at Pfeiffer University with the recruitment of potential high school and community college student athletes.
  • Adhere to NCAA Division III, USA South Conference office and department rules and regulations.
  • Work within the framework of the Department of Athletics administration and coaches.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, staff and alumni.
  • Staff member is responsible for the monitoring theinstitutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coach supervision to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
  • The assistant coach will be asked to perform daily operations work, coaching, supervision of Team Academic Study Hall, supervision of student-managers, and recruiting under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Office work will require strong organizational skills and writing ability.
  • The Assistant will travel with the team, prepare team travel itineraries, and assist with other aspects of travel (including driving).
  • For practices, the Assistant Coach will be in charge of a certain positional requirement in accordance with the Head Coach and will assist in planning, preparing for, and executing practice plans.
  • During competition the Assistant Coach will be in charge of tracking team and opponent patterns and providing feedback to the team and Head Coach.
  • The Assistant is also responsible for film exchange as well as other duties for the University- basketball program.
  • Assisting with Athletic Department with Game Management responsibilities that include game day preparation and breakdown, game supervision and supervision of work study/game day staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

The assistant women's basketball coach will assist in all aspects of maintaining the basketball program with aspirations of consistently playing in the NCAA Division III post-season tournament and the promotion of Pfeiffer University's mission and values of a true liberal arts university. Candidates must have a genuine understanding and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy that places priority on the overall quality of the student-athletes' educational experience and the successful completion of all academic programs. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: scouting, recruiting, daily practice, organizational duties, fundraising, and providing leadership and mentorship of student-athletes. This position supports the women's basketball program with the recruitment of potential high school and community college student athletes.

Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to be mobile throughout the workday between office hours and practice/competition.
  • Work weekends and holiday breaks
  • Extensive travel required for competition and recruiting.

The position requires:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Successful background in coaching, preferably at the collegiate level;
  • Previous recruiting experience;
  • Ability to stick to deadlines and monitor your own progress;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Successfully pass NCAA recruiting examination;
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certification within four months of hire;
  • Functional computer skills
