Job description

Position Summary
The Pump Technician is a hands-on position responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of diesel driven pumps and related rental equipment both in the shop and at customer job sites. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a high level of equipment reliability, safety, and quality to ensure customer satisfaction.


Duties and Responsibilities

·        Conduct inspections of diesel-driven pumps and related equipment to determine operational condition and identify required maintenance or repairs.

·        Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, fuel system, cooling system, and light electrical issues using appropriate troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic tools.

·        Perform preventative maintenance activities, including fluid changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and scheduled service intervals.

·        Repair and replace defective components such as engines, bearings, seals, impellers, couplings, valves, hoses, and associated equipment.

·        Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble pumps and engines while adhering to manufacturer specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.

·        Perform operational testing, start-up, and commissioning activities to verify equipment performance and reliability prior to customer deployment.

·        Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures in both shop and field environments to minimize customer downtime.

·        Conduct field service work at customer facilities, refineries, chemical plants, construction sites, and other industrial locations.

·        Complete equipment inspections and accurately assess equipment damage, repair requirements, and estimated repair costs.

·        Document repairs, inspections, parts usage, and service reports accurately and timely.

·        Maintain in-depth working knowledge of company systems, equipment, and operational procedures.

·        Coordinate parts and inventory requirements with Operations Management to ensure equipment readiness.

·        Communicate equipment failures, recurring issues, and customer concerns to management.

·        Work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with team members to achieve departmental goals.

·        Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and preparation of rental equipment for customer deliveries.

·        Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.

·        Participate in required product, safety, and technical training programs.

·        Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company, customer, and regulatory safety standards.

·        Serve as a professional representative of the company while interacting with customers and maintaining positive customer relationships.

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·        High School Diploma or GED required.

·        Minimum of three (3) years of experience repairing diesel engines, pumps, industrial equipment, or rental equipment preferred.

·        Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.

·        Ability to obtain and maintain customer-required site access and safety certifications.


Preferred Skills

·        Experience with diesel driven pumps, centrifugal pumps, trash pumps, and high-pressure pumping systems.

·        Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand pressures, tolerances, clearances, and rotating equipment principles.

·        Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, fuel systems, and cooling systems.

·        Basic knowledge of electrical systems, control panels, and troubleshooting of 12V/24V electrical circuits.

·        Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.

·        Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·        Excellent organizational and time management skills.

·        Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in remote field environments.

·        Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·        Team-oriented with a positive attitude and customer-focused mindset.


Physical Requirements

·        Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.

·        Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods.

·        Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

·        Ability to work overtime, weekends, and respond to emergency service calls as required.

·        Ability to travel to customer locations and industrial job sites.


Work Environment

This position requires work in both shop and field environments, including refineries, chemical plants, industrial facilities, construction sites, and customer locations. Employees must comply with all company and customer safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
